Spruce Up the Home Surroundings With Elegant Mosaics for 2017

The home is that special something where the heart resides through the many seasons! Why not look around and bring some refurbishing ideas to life? Bring some color and gloss, a little expense here and there, and life changes dramatically. Heighten the senses for the New Year already over a month old, though the excitement yet remains.

Start with a thorough clean

DIY is inspiring enough. Get into the home spring-cleaning fever. Clean everything except the ceiling and the attic maybe. Carpets, furniture, silver and copper, doors and windows, the wardrobe, and use the right cleaning materials. See how everything changes for the better and the New Year looks and feels so good.

Install exquisite mosaics on portions of walls and floors

Perhaps the walls and floors need a makeover, especially if they are aging and outdated. A cheerful and colorful contemporary tile culture is in order. Get rid of blank walls and vacant floors. Glass, Stone and Metal Mosaics are too good to be true, as colorful as mystical. Professional help would probably be necessary unless expert DIY is possible. Choose from a fancy collection that boggles the imagination. They deserve to be called dreams in tiles!

If all that sounds very complicated, Glass Mosaics should be inspiration enough with lustrous images reflected everywhere. Get them in gentle colors and immersive designs that elevate the soul.

If glass compositions seem too delicate, perhaps the strength and solidity of real natural stone could provide style statements that last and last. Marble & Onyx Mosaics represent the ultimate in extraordinary beauty with a supernatural touch. Marble has always been associated with the divine. Onyx does appear supernatural enough. Get them together and a smashing effect is born!

Overhauling entire walls and floors would be a huge task, rather costly too. Select the most used and frequented areas and give them a facelift. The central portions of walls and floors where everybody congregates deserve the special effects. The remainder could be painted or covered with curtains, furniture, carpets or art hangings.
Work hard on the grand entrance

Identity often lies with the state of the building entrance, besides the gate. Let that building facade shine through with a world of meaning. A combination of decorative mosaics like Travertine Mosaics, perhaps combined with Meshed Pebbles, would give visitors something to think about. Greenery with exotic blooming flowers would bring a fairy tale effect. Install some unusual lighting devices too and let the guests gaze and gaze.

So You Think You Do not Need a Social Media Manager? Think Again!

Managing a business' social media presence is an unlikely thought to have over dinner, but that is what crossed my mind last evening as my wife and I enjoyed an early dinner at one of our favourite restaurants of the eat as much as you can and cook at the table type eatery. The restaurant is a great barn of a place with close to one hundred tables which, in restaurant parlance, means they can seat 400 covers at a time, which is just as well as it is very popular. What caused me to think of this subject was that about a quarter of the diners were "playing" with a smartphone. None was making or receiving a telephone call. They were all using social sites.

Taking photos of the food they were cooking and posting them online was a popular activity, and of course, taking the ubiquitous "selfie". In some instances all the diners at a table were occupied doing this. This phenomenon has been explained to me as being a way of sharing the experience with absent friends and interacting with them.

That is what got me thinking about why a business should manage its online presence. The restaurant I was dining at does have very positive online presence, but an up-market restaurant in the same town has recently suffered a very different fate following comments made in a local forum by a disgruntled customer.

A Google search confirmed that this other restaurant does not have a website, or a Face Book page or any other official online presence. It does, however, have an online presence in the form of reviews on TripAdvisor and a thread in an active local forum, even if the restaurateur is unaware of this. Unfortunately for him the conversation in the forum is generally negative. Worse still, this conversation has been going on for several days. Not only has this conversation been indexed by Google, it is the first item in the listing for a search against the name of the restaurant.

No business can satisfy 100% of its customers 100% of the time. It is how the business deals with those few dissatisfied customers that makes all the difference. In the case of this "other" restaurant, the owner seems to be unaware of the damage caused to the reputation of his business and that potential customers, such as my wife and I, have been put off from going there.

Contrast that with how another small local business has responded to detrimental comments on social media. This business owner has arranged for the Internet in general and social media in particular to monitored several times a day for comments and conversations in which his business is mentioned. Whenever and where ever it is mentioned, he responds – with thanks if praised, and with apologies and remedial measures if there is criticism. This entrepreneur has a website and also uses social media extensively to promote his business.

What can we learn from these two examples of social media management by small local businesses?

In the case of the "other" restaurant, there no social media management taking place. By not being a participant in the online conversation, the restaurateur is not engaging with his customers and potential customers. Nor is he protecting the reputation of his business and is letting other people control the conversation to his detriment. The result of which is that he has undoubtedly lost business.

In contrast, the local entrepreneur is effectively managing his social media presence to promote his business and to engage with his customers and potential customers, develop his brand, and to protect the reputation of his business. As a result, he has a loyal customer base who often make repeat purchases and his business is prospering.

Neither business is sufficiently large to employ a full-time in-house social media manager. Whereas one business has no one dealing with social media management, the other recognised the importance of this function and has outsourced this task, albeit on a part-time basis.

In the past, a disgruntled customer would tell 12 people of his dissatisfaction. These days, he posts his complaint on social media for the whole world to see. The Internet is social, which means unless the business owner steers the conversation in a positive direction, he is allowing others to control how that conversation develops. The takeaway is that no business, irrespective of its size, can afford it ignore the management of its social media presence.

Every One Of Us Is Already Rich!

We do not have to check our piggy banks to know that we are already wealthy. Sadly, though, many of us have trouble understanding this reality because the numbers in some of our piggy banks do not seem to add up to the true richness of our lives. Let's not let some misleading numbers fool us and bankrupt our thoughts. Every one of us is already rich whether we know it or not!

Let's look at how fortunate we are! For example, do you see your parents? How about siblings, grandparents, cousins, and even uncles and aunts? Do you see your friends? Every one of these people add to the richness of your life. How about teachers and coaches? Do you see any of these wealth and values adders around in your life? How about co-workers and bosses? Yup, they too add richness to the tapestry of our lives! Are you starting to feel fortunate and lucky yet?

Let's turn over a few more rocks and see what else we can find. Do you see that school you go to? Well, guess what? You are a part owner of that school! All of the taxpayers in your community support that school and because you and your family pay taxes, you and your family are co-owners of that school. I bet you have not ever looked at your school like that before have you? You're not just a student; you're also an owner. So make sure your investment in yourself is worthwhile and you're getting your money's worth during those six hours you spend there every day.

Now teens, go learn, lead, and lay the way to a better world for all of us. Now that you know how truly lucky and wealthy we all really are, do not ever forget that every one of us, including you, is already rich; regardless of whatever those silly insignificant numbers in our bank accounts or piggy banks may be trying to sell us. And once again, thanks in advance for all that you do, and all that you will do …

Quit Smoking – What Is Your Gut Reaction?

I’m not talking about your intuition, although I’m sure that gut reaction tells you very clearly that smoking is a really bad idea on many levels.

So here is another one. Your gut does a whole lot more than hold food and churn it up for digestion. There is a kilo or more of healthy bacteria in a healthy gut.

But you are a smoker so your gut isn’t healthy. You will still have about one kilo of bacteria but a high proportion of them may be the type which don’t contribute to your health.

The result is inflammation in your joints, skin, lungs, organs and even your brain.

The toxins from smoking affect your gut bacteria, this creates inflammation, plus smoking alone creates inflammation so now you are in for a world of possible problems.

It is easy to say that smoking makes everything worse, but for certain we know that it causes a vast selection of health issues and that it does absolutely no good at all for anyone.

Many smokers claim that smoking helps them relax. While there is some truth to that belief, the reality is that nicotine causes more stress. It’s just simple bio-chemistry.

But the thing about stress is that one of the important chemicals which regulate our mood and emotions is the neuro transmitter serotonin. The thing is 70-80% of serotonin is created in the gut. Therefore anyone with a disturbed gut function will have trouble managing stress.

As a smoker the reward centre of your brain likes nicotine, as it would alcohol, or sugar. But this same part of the brain which is called the limbic system, is the part which runs over time when you are stressed.

Smoking causes you to be locked into a cycle of stress, inflammation, and a habit which still connects to some perceived benefit.

When you quit smoking using hypnosis, your stress levels will drop as you are producing less cortisol and adrenalin from nicotine. In time your gut will heal and you will produce more healthy bacteria, but this will take up to a year or more and you will need to supplement with a pro biotic formula, and it will help to eat less sugar, which only feeds the bad bacteria.

If you have smoked for many years you will need to be patient as you recover, you have stressed your body and it will take time to bounce back.

We Can Do It!

Once you realize that you CAN do nearly anything anyone else is doing, and that you can succeed at a very high level doing it if you choose to make it a priority and decide to invest the time and effort to do so, your world of possibility opens up for you.

When I committed to becoming the number one sales producer in my company of 25 other sales reps, I achieved it in 90 days. Within 9 months, I was the number one producer out of five branch offices. And you CAN do it, too, if you choose to…

The exciting thing, though, is that a "can do" attitude is contagious. When you infect a whole team, a whole company, a whole family with a "can do" attitude, a lot of exciting things begin to happen. I always think of the impact one runner had on the world’s performance once he changed everyone’s attitude with his own accomplishment.

Many of you may have heard of Roger Bannister. He was the first man to run a mile in under four minutes. This may not seem so remarkable now, but before May 6th, 1954, it was an acknowledged and accepted fact that the human body was physically incapable of running a mile in under four minutes. Everyone knew it was impossible to even try. But Roger didn’t believe it.

He knew he could do it, and he was determined to keep trying until he did. He failed at the 1952 Olympics (he came in fourth), but he didn’t give up trying. A few years later, on an unlikely day and track (poor weather conditions, cold day and a wet track), Roger shattered the world record, and the world belief, as he flew down the last straight and finished the course with the incredible time of 3:59.4.

He had done the impossible and broke through the 4 minute mile.

As amazing as this was, what was even more amazing for the world of running was that just 46 days later, a runner named John Landy beat his time. And over the next few years, even more people broke through the four-minute mark. Suddenly, people realized that it could be done and they believed they, they did it as well.

The world is filled with stories like this, and in business, it is also true. I remember when our team of inside sales reps were given new customized scripts and offered a huge monthly bonus for the rep who used them to capture the most new clients. The previous record was seven in a month. Marty, an average rep before the new scripts and contest, rigorously adhered to them, worked hard, and by the end of the month, he hit 21 new clients! We were all floored.

But once that new record was set, we began believing that perhaps we could do it, too. And some of us did.

If you are a leader of a sales team, athletic team or head of a family or cause, start believing that you can. Then transfer that belief to your team. If you do, then soon you will amazed by what your team can and will accomplish.

Cold Sore Remedies – You Can Use at Home

The world today is pestered with different types and kinds of diseases or illnesses. One of the most common health conditions is cold sores. If you have cold sores, there are remedies that you can easily find at home.

Home remedies are not only less costly but oftentimes very effective. Like numbing creams and antiviral pills, home remedies can work just as effectively. There is a great advantage in using home remedies because you can treat the cold sores as soon as it appears. You don’t have to trouble yourself in going to your doctor’s clinic to get prescription medicines and then after that, you would still have to go to the nearest drugstore and purchase the creams. Immediately address your cold sores problem with little effort.

The best thing about home remedies is because they are all natural. First and foremost, you have to monitor your everyday diet. Most of today’s modern diet consists of ready-to-eat foods, food items rich in fats and oils, and junk foods. If you eat these kinds of foods, your body will not get all the needed nutrients and vitamins it needs. So you must start eating healthy food choices from now on. You can ask help from a dietician to help you out in choosing the right types of food to eat.

You would also need to take vitamin supplements and other food supplements to fill in some of the nutrients and vitamins lacking in your diet. There are also certain powder and juices that you can use to treat cold sores. An ice cube is also quite helpful to relieve cold sore symptoms. Not all home remedies work quite well; all you have to do is to choose the right and the best home cold sore remedy that you can use.

The best home remedy is using ice cubes. Once you develop cold sores, you need to apply ice cubes on it immediately. This will slow down metabolism around the cold sore’s local area. Growth will then be slowed down because the virus can’t spread or move easily. Try to apply ice cubes on your cold sores every 10 minutes and keep on doing it for the rest of the day.

In order to reduce pain and the size of cold sores, you can use tea bags, extracts of lemon balm, and aloe. You can purchase these things from a local store at a very cheap price. It would even be best if you can plant some of the herbs in your backyard especially if you have enough planting space. This way, if cold sore occurs, all you have to do is to pick the herbs in your yard.

Avoid drinking too much coffee. Coffee can greatly contribute in the formation of the sores so try to avoid it as much as possible. Instead of drinking coffee, why not try drinking tea instead? Tea are much healthier than coffee.

If you use the herbs and have a healthy eating habit, you can surely fight cold sores. The sores will also tend to heal quicker than usual. So if you want your cold sore treatments to be cheap, easy, and quick, choose the home remedies over the commercial cold sore products.

Chicago's Lineup Must Have Bryant and Rizzo In the Middle To Repeat As Champs

Babe Ruth batted clean up for the storied Yankees of the Twenties, but he certainly had help from the player who hit in front of him. That third hole slugger was first baseman and fellow Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig, who combined with the Sultan of Swat to make the best middle of the order tandem in the history of the game.

It would not be until seventy years later that any three and four hitters would come close to those of the New York World Series champions of Ruth and Gehrig. Barry Bonds and Jeff Kent, who both went on to earn Most Valuable Player awards, proved a potent duo or the National League champion San Francisco Giants.

Last season's World Series champions, the Chicago Cubs, were also anchored by an impressive three-four combination. Hitting in the clean up spot for most games was first baseman Anthony Rizzo, who finished as a runner up for the MV P award. The winner of that award, third baseman Kris Bryant, batted right behind Rizzo in most of Chicago's games.

Thus it was somewhat surprising to see the projected 2017 lineup of the Cubs, according to the popular baseball website realsport101.com. The batting order that Chicago manager Joe Madden will use, according to the site, has Bryant hitting second and Rizzo in the third slot.

Other than the addition of a few at bats over the season, there is no advantage to moving Bryant up in the order. In fact, such a change would likely have adverse effects on the Chicago offense.

In the place of Bryant in the clean up spot is Ben Zobrist, who is probably more suited as a second hitter. He has never hit for a lot of power, one of the traditional requirements of a clean up hitter.

If the Cubs do indeed bat Zobrist fourth, they would be just one of four NL teams whose clean up hitter had fewer than twenty home runs last year. The other three clubs not only missed the postseason, but they finished with three of the four worst records in the league.

San Diego, who tied with the Reds for fewest wins, have young third baseman Yangervis Solarte as their projected number four hitter. He hit fifteen home runs last year, his first as a regular in the Padres lineup.

Arizona finished just one spot ahead of San Diego in the NL West, and their projected clean up hitter is David Peralta. The outfielder hit just twelve home runs with 53 runs batted in, despite hitting behind perennial MVP candidate Paul Goldschmidt.

The other projected four hole hitter, Starling Marte of Pittsburgh, had thirteen home runs last year. He has never been considered a power hitter, but the Pirates lack any other options for the middle of the lineup.

A flexible veteran manager like Joe Madden is likely to use a variety of lineups throughout the season, but he would be wise to let Rizzo and Bryant hit regularly in the three and four spots in the batting order. The Cubs have already lost their leadoff hitter to St. Louis, free agent Dexter Fowler, so there is no need to weaken the offense even further.

How to Get the Most From Your Heating System

Unless you have an unlimited HVAC budget, chances are that you spend a great deal of time trying to keep comfort levels up while keeping energy costs down. This can seem like a never ending battle that only changes when the seasons do. Fortunately, there are things you can do to help get the most from your heating system and thus lower energy bills.

How to get the Most from Your Heater

  1. Filters – Take time to change out the filters on your system. Depending on the age and type of system the frequency will vary, but a good rule of thumb is once every three months. By changing the filter, your heater will not have to work as hard, plus you get the added benefit of cleaner, healthier air.
  2. Thermostat – Be sure that your thermostat is properly calibrated. A HVAC technician can do this for you as part of a basic inspection or maintenance check. You can also save money by installing a programmable thermostat that allows you to not just set the temperature in your home, but to control when the heater turns on and in what rooms, Some of them can even be controlled via your smart phone so that you can have an even more accurate use of the heater.
  3. Age – Sometimes the best way to get the best heating scenario is to update a system. Older heater units did not have the same standards of efficiency that we have now. If your system is more than. 10 years old, consider an update.
  4. Maintenance – Your HVAC unit needs to be inspected at least once a year to ensure that all the pieces and parts are working correctly in that nothing is in need of repair. Frequent checks means that you are aware of any issues and can address them before they become a problem – such as having the heater go out just as blizzard comes in!
  5. Temperature – There is no reason to crank your heater to 80 degrees just because it is 40 degrees outside. In fact, the HVAC can typically only get your home around 20 degrees warmer (or cooler in warm months) than the outside air.

Lower the energy bills means more money for doing those great winter time activities such as skiing or escaping to a warmer climate for a winter vacation. If you are unsure about to implement these tips, talk to a local HVAC professional to learn what your home or office needs to do. After all, when it comes to warmth and saving money, there’s nothing more important than planning and being proactive. Get started today.

Solar Power Your Home and Harness the Power of the Sun

It's easy and affordable to solar power your home now because you can get the instructions online, and the parts for your new home-project can be purchased locally. Solar panels can cost you anything from $ 1000 upwards, and you can build your own for around $ 200 with parts from your local general hardware store.

A unit this size ($ 200) will not power your whole home just like a manufactured one ($ 1000) would not, but it's a great start for a home project that will save you money in the future. At first you'll start small, and then with the money you're saving on your fuel bills you can re-invest it into paying for more solar panels.

When you solar power your home you are harnessing the power of the sun. It's a completely green energy source that will help to save the environment as well as give you more money towards a better lifestyle.

The benefits of homemade solar panels are …

Increased value of your home
Lower or no fuel bills
A vacation every year
A new car with the money you save
Satisfaction of completing a home project

You can even sell unused electricity back to your local provider, or you can store it.

If you live in an area with regular power outages your home will keep going when others are without the necessities such as TV and the internet.

A small project of one solar panel can turn into something that will eventually power your home, and eliminate your fuel bills altogether. This can completely change the way you and your family live, and enjoy life.
